Finally, I got my hands on the R-tune 350Z. The R-tune version came loaded with all the S-tune suspension components, plus an R-tune rear stabilizer bar. Besides the cat-back exhaust, the 350Z also was modified with Nismo headers, Nismo camshafts, Nismo cold-air intake, Nismo lightweight flywheel, clutch disc and clutch cover, Nismo limited-slip differential, Nismo power steering cooler, Nismo brake pads with the same wheel-and-tire package as the S-tune.
The R-tune package made its presence felt with increased corner exit speed, thus pushing me faster to the next corner. The upgraded brake pads slowed the 350Z for better entrance into corners. No matter how hard I pushed the 350Z, I still felt I was in control-and let me tell you, that is a good thing when you're doing 100-plus mph on the straight-aways and have to brake as hard as you can to make the next corner.
I was beat by the end of the day, but in a good way. Nismo has put together some worthy packages to make driving more fun for Sentra and 350Z owners. It continues to live up to its performance reputation.
As a closing note to all you owners of older Nissans: Fear not! Nismo will also be offering performance components for the older 300ZXs, 240SXs, and previous-generation Sentra SE-Rs under the Legacy line-up. (Note: all Legacy components are designated R-tune, aren't under warranty and are sold "As Is.") Nismo performance parts will also be offered for the Altima sedan, the Frontier truck and Xterra sport utility. So keep a look out.
