At work I am all about high tech but at home I can rarely afford the price tag of high-tech gadgetry. I have an iBook laptop that I use to write stories at home and it is pretty leading edge-OSX, Photoshop, QuarkXPress ... all the essentials. But when it comes to personal computing I am, or rather was, in the Stone Age.
I recently upgraded from a 1994-vintage HP with Windows 95, yes 9-5 to a Dell with Windows XP. What a difference. I was in awe of the computing speed of the Dell, its flat screen LCD display and the little scroll wheel in the middle of the mouse; how cool is that thing.
My nightly ritual consists of surfing a practically pre-programmed string of sites on the Web. It starts with dimequarterly.com where I hit the classifieds looking for a future SR20 candidate, then a direct link from the dime to 510s on eBay. The next stop is nsxprime.com for my future NSX purchase. Of course the size of the lottery jackpot I hit will determine which project will get the green light.
From there it's off to AutoTrader.com for BMW E36 M3 possibilities. I search for 1995 to 1999 cars under $15,000 because if I hit a big lotto I'm going E46 or signing up for the V10 M5. My last stop is usually clublexus.com since I have an SC300 that's been in the body shop for two years and a Supra engine waiting in the wings. It's always good to watch the world go by in cyberspace as well.
Then, if I am not too depressed, I drop by hondatech.com to see what's up in their world. Then maybe I'll log on to a Buick GN site, Supra Forums, Realtor.com or the Daily Racing Form site. There comes a time when I am hit by a wave of drowsiness which signals an end to the night's surfing session. As I drift off to sleep I pick a car I saw on-line and dream of the ways I would modify it. Yep, we never stop tuning here at Turbo magazine.
