That left the 240SX up for grabs. (See how quickly I move on? What Civic?) The back-story is: acquire parts and it will come. Similar to July '05's SC300 feature when Mike Bialsko bought the parts before the car, I picked up a sweet Final Konnextion Japanese body kit but had no car to put it on. Hence my desire for the Nissan. Isn't having a body kit justification for buying the car? Someone really needs to explain this to my wife!
The 240SX wasn't local so it was going to be a blind buy-just pictures, no inspection. As such I low-balled the price ($2340) and what do you know, I won the auction. Knowing how popular 240s are right now I have no idea why it went for so low. It must have been luck of the draw or something was wrong with the vehicle that I didn't notice in the pictures. I hoped it wasn't the latter as I set off at 1 a.m. to make the long drive to pick up our new project vehicle in Hayward, California; 392 miles; one-way.
Since I never buy crashed vehicles, all that happened to this S14 is that it was stripped of its seat and custom stereo system. No worries there, I'm not a sound system guy, I just see it as extra weight. Upon arriving in Northern California I was happy to see that my purchase was in good shape and even started with a screwdriver serving as the key.
The scratches and dents on the bumpers were of no consequence since they are coming off anyway when we install the body kit. The engine purred like a kitten and had an Injen intake already on it. What was left of the interior was extremely clean with no cracks or scratches; overall a pleasant surprise.
After strapping the Nissan down I made the long trip back to SoCal. Driving over 13 hours with a trailer in one day just isn't fun. But my exhaustion didn't stop me from giving my new toy a bath and some preliminary fixing. So now all of you Nismo guys can quit whining. We're working on a non-Toyota or Honda vehicle! Until next month I will be in the garage.
