The NDRA and its band of import racers put the hurt on Silver Dollar Raceway when the Nopi Fast and the Furious Drag Race Series hit the strip July 27-28. Fans swarmed Reynolds, Ga., and those who made the trek were rewarded with some mind-numbing, ear-blasting performances.
In Pro Import, George Ioannou and Ara Arslanian laid down the law in qualifying, tearing off 7.14 and 7.15 e.t.s. In the first round, George coaxed a 7.14 at 187-mph blast out of the Bullish Motor Racing Solara to win against Abel Ibarra. That effort advanced him to the finals, where he ran unopposed because both RJ Simrock and Ara were DQ'd in their semifinal showdown.
In Pro Outlaw, the money race put Pepe Loco pilot Carlos Montano up against Shaun Carlson and the Meguiar's Focus. The FWD vs. RWD battle went to Montano and his old-school, rear-drive 8.44 to 8.61. Carlson's runner-up finish strengthened his lead in the class.
Unibody racers had it going on in Pro 4-Cylinder. Lisa Kubo, the only single-digit racer in the field, dominated the affair, running a 9.36 in the first round and a 9.24 in the finals. Lisa is atop the NDRA seasons points standings and plans to make the remaining Race War dates.
Fans of all-motor motivation got their fix in an import vs. domestic contest as Scott Mohler and his Mopar advanced to the finals, along with Morris Prayoonto and his Honda. Mohler was the favorite, based on his 11.07 time in the first round. In the money race, things stayed true to form as Mohler's 11.26 was too much for Prayoonto's 11.79.
