Shaun Carlson made a big splash at the NHRA Auto Trader Southeast Nationals. After two rounds of qualifying, he owned both ends of the Pro-FWD national record with an 8.22 at 181 mph. By Sunday, he also owned his first Wally. Debuts don't get any better.

George Ioannou tightened his hold on the Pro-RWD-class points lead. But the depth of the field, which now has three other cars in the 6s and four or five running 7.10 or better, means nothing is certain.

Ken Scheepers was another front runner extending his points lead at Gainesville Raceway. He popped his best e.t of the event, a 10.32, in the finals to defeat Scott Mohler.

Kenny Tran survived a wild ride in eliminations, where he came within inches of the wall, to advance to the Turbo Magazine Hot Rod finals. The Quaker State crew was hoping the rain delay would become a postponement because the Quaker State Civic had a blown head gasket. As it turned out, the Honda was raced with no coolant but a clutch slave cylinder failure caused a red light. Tran did set the mph record in the class at Gainesville.

Abel Ibarra experienced more apex seal problems, but when the K&N-backed RX-7 actually runs, it's crazy fast.
