Turbo magazine and other Primedia publications recently took over the California Speedway for a day of drag and track racing. The Motor Skills Challenge was a contest open to our readers who wanted to put their ultimate street cars to the test. Contestants entered the Challenge online via our Web site, turbomagazine.com, and winners were invited out to the race track for a spirited competition.

Up for grabs were bragging rights of who could post the best track lap time and quarter-mile e.t. Honda Tuning, Super Street, Sport Compact Car, eurotuner and, of course, Turbo participated in the road course challenge. Turbo then hosted our own drag racing competition. Pro driver Steph Papadakis was on hand to lend his drag skills. How cool is that-you get to see the potential of your vehicle with Papadakis at the wheel. Owners posted their best times and then Papadakis hopped in and piloted each of the vehicles

Taking home the Turbo Motor Skills quarter-mile drag honors was Adam Cortez in his 2005 Subaru STi. Adam posted a best of 12.89, even beating Steph who ran Adam's car at a 13.14. Second place went to Qahhaar Hector in his Saturn SC2. As for the road course, the mighty STi also takes top honors with a best lap time of 01:14.76. This STi was piloted by owner Russ Warr, a Sport Compact Car reader. Second place track finish was Robert Walker's run in his 2004 Honda S2000, posting a lap time of 01:17.71.

It was a fun day of racing with no major mishaps, just a couple of spinouts and some cool fire-spewing to boot. Keep checking our Web site for future contests and promotions; maybe we'll show up in your neck of the woods.
