Rolling in Turbo's Project tC, built for Scion's tC debut, we wound north through the Los Angeles freeways until we hit the Valley. Aside from being home to Valley girls, the San Fernando Valley is also the location of Turbonetics' headquarters. A proven leader in the turbo industry, Turbonetics held a Scion tC meet at their facility to promote their recently released tC turbo kit.
Having been to a bunch of meets and open houses I gotta say that Turbonetics certainly knows how to throw a party and keep the crowd happy. With free T-shirts, BBQ lunch, DJ, and tons of raffle giveaways, a good time was had by all. Rows and rows of tCs were lined up showing off their wares. Turbonetics opened their doors for visitors to check out the facility, and to run their cars on the dyno.
Turbo received tons of accolades from attendees for our Spectra-blue beauty of a tC. What was surprising to us is that we built our tC three years ago at the launch of the Scion model, and yet it still was one of the best looking cars at the meet (per comments from other tC owners there). When we modified the pre-production tC there were no parts available for it, and cosmetic body kits hadn't been released yet. Nonetheless, we did what we could at the time; and the end result was a pretty damn clean tC tuner. Three years later, our rush build still stands out from the crowd.
Turbo was also on hand to give away an exhaust system, which will be tested and featured in one of our future issues. The winner of the system was a local chap from Redondo Beach, California, although other folks had driven out from other states to attend this event.
Our stomachs filled with barbeque, we headed back to "the O.C." in our tC blue bomber. We didn't even get pulled over by po-po in our no-plate project. Like Ice Cube said: today was a good day. We suggest you locals check out Turbonetics' website for future car meets.
