San Diego is known for its love of wildlife. For instance, the region is home to the world-famous San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Wild Animal Park and now added to the list, the Toyo Tires-sponsored Hot Import Nights. Yes, an import car show. Not just your average import event, this particular "Nights" attracted wildlife in record numbers, making it the biggest nocturnal import event in California. On February 5, 2000 thousands of import and nightlife enthusiasts fell victim to the biggest Hot Import Nights of all time. This was the first time Vision Entertainment stepped foot where the surf meets the turf, Del Mar Fairgrounds, and the event left an impression nobody would forget.
The Del Mar Toyo Tires Hot Import Nights event was sponsored by Kenwood, MHT Wheel Corporation, Garage Graphics and a gang of dot.com's. Internet-based companies like Motorious.com, speedoption.com, Overboost.com, Autosportz.com, West Coast Internet and Auto.Recycler.com came out from cyber space to represent the power of the Internet within the import industry.
Venders like Legend Motorsports, Autocannon, TRD and a bus load more manufacturers were also on hand to show the world their latest gizmos and gadgets. If we were to compare Import Nights to any sport, it would definitely be the sport of fishing. Manufacturers baited their booths with lovely ladies-the lure of choice for most showgoers. The biggest difference would have to be the size and quantity of lures the companies brought out. If there was one thing for certain the evening's catch of the night was the Miss Import Night booth where the tastiest bait of all hooked a school of youths-Import Tuner cover model Sasha Singleton.
Walking through the three jam-packed halls, we found each had a different aura. Stroll through one and the sound of hip-hop kept the crowd moving to the beat. Peek into the second hall and the rave-like atmosphere couldn't help but keep you in a trance with techno beats, radical lighting and extreme show cars. The third, and biggest, hall offered a mix of hip-hop, house and techno that summed up the evening as a something for everyone extravaganza. So what does this all say about Hot Import Nights? Ain't nothin but a Vibrant Thang. Next stop, San Mateo.
