Editor's Note: "Extreme Exposure" will feature bigger photos, more pages and more exposure than our conventional Rides entry. To attain this high-level of exposure one must have a worthy car, clean photos (preferably slides) of the inside and outside details of the car and enough info to make it all happen. We are trying to increase the quality of Rides and this section could easily see a vehicle graduate to full feature status. The most determining factory for such an upgrade is photography. Please don't use disposable cameras. The number and quality of the entries will determine how often Extreme Exposure will appear.
Vincent Elias, Jr.Huntington Beach, Calif.1990 CRX SIROriginally received as a gift in July of 1998, Vincent's CRX-dubbed Redstorm-is an ongoing project of epic proportions and has shown up in "Reader's Rides" in a prior incarnation. Vincent wasn't completely satisfied with his 1.6-liter SOHC, 16- valve Si engine and has since scuttled it for a DOHC VTEC 1.6-liter B16A JEM-spec engine. With its prior engine, the CRX had an Akimoto Funnel Ram 2 intake system, Brospeed Ceramic Headers and a GReddy exhaust. A Bullfrog camshaft, Centerforce clutch and Neuspeed shift followed shortly thereafter. After upgrading the engine, Vincent stuck with the Akimoto intake and Greddy exhaust, adding Nology Hot Wires to the mix.
Handling is improved with a set of Eibach Pro-Kit springs as well as a set of KYB adjustable shocks. Neuspeed sway bars and strut tower braces were brought in to aid chassis stiffness. Rolling stock consists of Motorsport Rims wrapped in Falken GRB 195/50/15s. Wings West was called upon to provide the "Whail Tail" wing. The Redstorm CRX was then sent to the paint shop for a coat of "Radiant Red" and "school bus yellow" for the custom grille. Lighting is enhanced by PIAA super white bulbs covered with clear corner, bumper and side marker lenses.
Vincent plans to add a custom exhaust manifold in the near future, followed closely by boost and some major engine work, all in hopes of obtaining a 9-second timeslip.
