Stephan Papadakis8.71 @ 168 mphAEM, GReddy, DVS,Matix, Nuformz 1999 Tube-Frame Civic HBDuring the 2000 campaign Steph has raised the Ofront-wheel-drive performance standard to dizzying heights as he has blasted well into the 8s. There are those who feel he has not yet realized the full potential of the car, a scary proposition in itself. At the SEMA Show he unveiled a new 2001 coupe racer on the turnstile in Honda's booth. The new coupe is slated to run in the Outlaw Class.
Lisa Kubo9.21 @ 157 mphNitto Tires, STR, ExtrudeHone, Advanced Clutch Technology1992 Civic HBLisa plans to answer the bell in 2001. Currently she will be competing in the same Civic as last year but the team would love to run a two-car program. For 2001 the Nitto Civic will be trying a new engine stroked to 2.0-liters and some experimentation with bigger slicks will be part of the off-season ritual. The goal; 8-second immortality of course.
Chris Rado*9.40 @ 154 mphWorld Electronics, Penske Racing Shocks, Toyo Tires, Turbonetics, Bosch, RPS Performance Products1997 Acura IntegraChris Rado spent a good deal of time in his Supra street class racer in 2000. The Integra was converted to alcohol mid-season and the car responded with a 9.52. It later improved to an impressive 9.40 running only 20 psi.. For 2001 Chris will be campaigning a tube-frame Celica with engines supplied by factory tuning shop TRD. Christian plans to step up his operation considerably in 2001 with a fully dressed semi loaded with the Celica, the Supra (which will run alcohol and generate four-digit power figures in 2001), a Tundra pickup to tow the race cars around the pits and a wild, street-tuned Lexus GS 400 to cruise around town in once the track is closed for the night.
Ed Bergenholtz9.46 @ 151 mph1989 CRXRunning an 8-second e.t. has been at the core of the Brothers Bergenholtz race program throughout 2000. In their quest for the 8s they have dropped the weight of their CRX and run in the exhibition classes. Rumor has it that a tube-frame chassis car is in the works.
Jimmy O'Connor9.57 @ 147 mphVenom Racing2000 civic coupeThe Venom Racing team made impressive strides in 2000, blasting their way deep into the 9s. The team's accomplishments are even more impressive when you consider their first race car burned to the ground in the early stages of the season. The team bumped its time from 9.62 to 9.57 at the season-ending IDRC International Finals at Palmdale. The performance is the best ever for a Quick Class Honda at the high-altitude facility and moved the team ahead of two competitors on the list. These guys like to race and they should be among the elite in Quick Class for 2001.
Kenny Tran9.59 @ 151 mphLeading Edge Oil, Jotech Motorsports, AC Autotechnica, HP Motorsports1993 Civic HBTexas quick-shooter Kenny Tran ran his 9.59 on a new motor and hopes to add some tweaks in the off-season. New sponsor Leading Edge Oil should be well represented in 2001 and Kenny plans to increase his participation while vying for Quick Class dominance.
John Brown*9.59 @ 149 mphCastrol Motor Oil2000 Civic coupeJohn Brown's alcohol burning Civic busted into the 9.50s but didn't see enough of the track to get fully dialed in. John plans to retain Castrol as a sponsor and hit the track with a vengeance in 2001. Expect to see the car fly the colors of a number of Castrol products, each with a different paint scheme. The painting program will be similar to those in NASCAR.
