Yes, the Supra 7 was a big hit on the Trek.

Turbo magazine's other representative was a Mazda Protege 5, which we'll be keeping as a long-term project car.

The Hooters Girls were nice enough to help us with our PR effort.

Toyota Matrix Right Front View
Sport Compact Car's turbocharged Matrix was another cool car on the Trek. Toyota would take delivery of it in Houston, but the Matrix name would live on as Turbo Ad Man Jerrod Strauss adopted a stray dog at the track and named it Matrix. Matrix was pregnant. whoa.

Day 2--Direct Hits sponsored hot laps on the go-kart track. SP's Alex Shen won his heat. The Import Tuner guys were kicked out for rough driving...twice.

Day 2 ended at Hinkle Family Fun Center in Albuquerque, N.M. We were able to clean up the cars and meet some people from Albuquerque's Baliztik car club.

The Supra 7 engine in Trek trim. The 2JZ made 862 hp on the dyno the week before the Trek. Look for a tuning update in the next issue.

Day 3--The Trek hits Texas.
1950 Cadillac Cadillac Ranch
Famed Cadillac Ranch is a real slice of automotive Americana. The artsy site features a row of buried late 1950s Cadillacs.

Amarillo's The Big Texan restaurant is famous for its free 72-ounce steak dinner. It's free, but the catch is only if you eat the whole meal in less than an hour.
0207Tur Trek 18
Here is the entree in question. The score--31,211 attempts; 5,238 winners. Wonder how much the losers paid for their indigestion?

Our fearless leader Larry Saavedra (left) with Trek rookie Mads Buck, who cheated and flew into Amarillo to join the Trek and barely survived dinner at The Big Texan.

Mads later resembled this; only add a Norwegian accent in place of the Texan drawl.

Jason left and Rex pose with The Man in Wichita Falls where we stopped at Nitrous Express for lunch. Don't let him see the back of the car...there's no plate.

Our biggest PR splash was at Freeman Mazda in Irving, Texas. The 7 was again the center of attention. We hung out at the dealership and gave away a grip of cool prizes.

Mike McGriff of Ft. Worth was the big winner at Freeman Mazda. He walked away with a free set of Velox wheels and told us the timing was perfect because he had just got an Eclipse to play
Honda Civic Engine Bay
Trek veteran Jay Friedman drove his own car this year. The nitrous system on his Civic suffered a broken bracket on the micro switch. At our Nitrous Express stop, an electric trigger was acquired and Rex got Jay's flow online for the return trip.
