I picked out this '32 coupe because it had been pushed out the track-side of the pits and had good light on it. In talking to driver Allan Fogliadini I soon discovered that I had stumbled onto a gem. He opened the hood to reveal a 1959-vintage GMC straight-six dump truck engine fitted with a homegrown, hybrid centrifugal blower. The Swirl Charger by Horsepower Engineering is the compressor side from a Garrett Air Research turbo (and a big one at that) joined by a custom gear drive to turn the conglomeration into a supercharger. The Swirl Charger set-up is specifically designed for land speed racing. The car was a real butt kicker with two records currently to its credit and one pending since it was running in a newly formed class. The BMR trailer was full of record placards from Bonneville and El Mirage.
