This orange dream machine was completed in October 2004 and has already threatened the 200- mph barrier with a 197-mph effort right out of the box. The class record in XXO-FR is 210.969 so the Goldman & Shores team is certainly in with a chance. The car and its crew represent the best of Bonneville-grassroots purity. "This roadster is homebrewed by a bunch of 60-plus-year-olds," says owner Bill Goldman. "A full volunteer effort for the love of the sport. We approach it seriously but do it for fun."
The stunning long-nose bodywork on the car and its attention to detail in the engine bay caught our eye. Goldman, who hails from Payson, Arizona, told us the engine is a GMC inline six, 1953 vintage, which has been punched out to 322 cubic inches, filled with forged internals and topped with a worked Skinner cylinder head. This car is certainly sweet and is there any better way to spend retirement than chasing the 200-mph club?
