2000 Honda Civic CX
Owner: Garland Wong; San Francisco
With the stock engine still in place, Garland Wong happily spent every last cent he could spare on squeezing the most out of his car, not to mention his wallet. We understand how he feels-our vending machine is always stocked with Cup O' Noodles.
Under the hood, Wong's Civic sports a DC Sports four-into-one header and Tanabe cat-back exhaust. MSD Super Conductor spark plug wires assure sufficient energy to the spark plugs. A ZEX 65-hp shot nitrous system with NOS purge kit gives the Civic some extra kick to go with the additional air and fuel provided by an AEM cold air intake and B&M adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
A Skunk2 coil-over conversion paired with Tokico HP shocks gives the car its stance and provides an extra margin of handling prowess. Landspeed Racing lower control arms and Neuspeed front upper and real lower tie bars round out the suspension mods. The rear brakes have been converted over to discs with an assembly and master cylinder from a '99 Civic Si. The contact patch is provided by a set of 205/40R-16 Nitto NT-450s wrapped around Enkei TBS-11s.
Of course, the interior got a little love too. To speed gear transitions, Wong installed a DC Sports short shifter and knob. A set of Auto Meter gauges helps him keep an eye on the overall health of his engine. As you can see, Wong's Civic isn't adorned with a body kit or a massive stereo system. We suspect that's either because he's saving up for an H22A engine swap or he actually likes the way the Civic looks stock.
1999 Honda Civic
Owner: Garrett Gentry; Massachusetts
Having bought his car new, Garrett Gentry saw his Civic as the perfect canvas to create his vision on. Hell, he's got some goodies we think are pretty trick, like the alarm system and voice-activated GPS nav system.
Under the hood, a Jackson Racing supercharger provides plenty of delicious positive displacement wallop. Helping fuel the demands of the supercharger are a Jackson Racing fuel pressure regulator and high-flow fuel pump. Denso Iridium spark plugs and Accel Thundersport 300+ spark plug wires along with an MSD Blaster SS coil and MSD pro cap with power tip light off the pressurized air/fuel mixture. A custom intake supplies the supercharger with its charge, while a Thermal R&D cat-back exhaust sends the spent fumes on their merry way.
In the handling realm, a set of Eibach Pro Kit lowering springs and Neuspeed tie bars keep the Honda on the right course. Sixteen-inch Knig wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes FZ4s provide the Civic's contact patch.
Remember that trick alarm system we mentioned? It's a Code Alarm Elite 2100 with keyless entry, microwave sensor, two-stage shock sensor, hood pin switch and mercury switch for the trunk. We may not know what it all does, but it sounds pretty neat-o. An Eclipse 5504 CD player and six-disc CD changer pumps tunes out through an Eclipse equalizer connected to Boston Acoustics Pro 6.5 components and two Boston Pro 12.5 subs. Oh yeah, the stereo is also equipped with an Eclipse Commander voice-activated GPS navigation system.
