Hankook Tire Presents "Tuner" Car Keys to Project Hankook Contest WinnerHankook Tire presented the keys to Project Hankook Civic winner Jose Santoyo of Lake Elsinore, Calif. This highly modified tuner car, valued at more than $40,000, was the grand prize in a national sweepstakes program held by Primedia and sponsored mainly by Hankook. Jose Santoyo's brothers, Christian and Tony, joined him at the awards ceremony.
Bill Bainbridge, Hankook Tire marketing director, says, "We couldn't be happier that Jose won this car. He's a hard-working young man helping his family. Jose's close relationship with his brothers is truly representative of a family united in spirit and in life."
Twenty-three-year-old Jose is a recent college graduate who earned a B.A. in Electronics and Manufacturing after receiving an associate degree at ITT Technical. He lives at home and is looking for a job.
Jose also wants to help his brothers continue their educations. Christian graduated high school in 2003 and is now attending community college, while Tony will graduate from high school this year and is in the process of applying to engineering schools.
"This is the first time I've entered a contest and given my real personal information," Jose explains. "Boy am glad I did this time! I was in Mexico visiting my father's family when my mother told me I had a package from Primedia's 'Import Tuner' magazine, my favorite car book. It wasn't until I came home and opened the package that I realized I may have actually won the car.
"Then Hankook Tire called and asked me to stay in a downtown Los Angeles hotel the night before the award ceremony. They took me out to dinner and then I started to believe it was real," Jose adds.
When Jose first saw the car he was speechless, as this is not a stock Honda Civic. The vehicle features more than $25,000 in aftermarket performance, sound and interior modifications by some of the biggest names in the industry.
The car now produces close to 200 hp, looks like a racecar, handles like an exotic sports car, features a full leather interior and has a sound system that will rip the paint off at full volume. And it features a set of Ventus Sport K104 high-performance tires.
Other sponsors of Project Hankook are Jackson Racing, Knig Wheels, Polk, Momo, Gila, Catz, Pro-Car Parts, Wings West, and Eibach.
