We then get a tour of VeilSide's feature vehicles at the Tokyo Auto Salon in 2004. A little bit of a yawn but they do have a nice kit for a S15, Celica GTS, Evo, G35, and R34. I'll take one of each, thanks.
Now for all of you RX-7 fans, take note of the feature on R Magic, the Japanese shop specializing in racing and drifting RX-7s. We saw some cool RX8 upgrades and new parts, as well as a drivealong in Tokyo with their RX-7 and RX8. (In traffic, yeeaaaah.)
Now at this point I would like to point out that you have already seen more features and footage than you would have in most import car DVDs but we are only halfway through this Vol. 6 so get up for a food refueling stop.
Make sure you get back in time for pro drifter Tanaka doing donuts in his shop. That's some balls for ya. Tanaka Engineering gives us tips for building a drift car and tuning. Back again to Tokyo Auto Salon (which we hope all of you see for yourself next year with the Turbo magazine TAS tour) we hit up NATS, an "automobile school", and then BN Sports body kits. Known for their extreme widebody kits and pro drift series, check out their U.S. dealer, GTB Sports. (Yes, and they show a bunch of the TAS models. Them girls gotta learn to eat!)
We then hop over to Signal Auto again in Osaka and are treated to an interview by Mr. Kida (owner of Signal) himself with the Signal pro drifters Chunky Bai and Korui. We get the specs on Bai's 400-hp S13 as well as Korui's ride and then we head to the famous drifting spot of Kyogo Harbor. You may recognize footage of the Tinker drift team if you are an Import Tuner reader.
Not wanting to leave Japan we are dropped off into a Los Angeles Hot Import Nights event. There are models galore, pole dancing, cars and more chicks.
If you are into chicks in bikinis don't miss the feature on their feature model Thuy Li. While Thuy is actually half-way articulate, (always a surprise) she certainly has some bolt-ons you can't miss. If you want a date with her bring her a Hello Kitty doll, apparently.
Then it's back to drifting at the Las Vegas Speedway with Signal Auto USA and Tanabe and Chris Forsberg piloting their 350Z.
Not wanting too much ying and not enough yang, Grip video balances out car and girl features so of course we directly proceed back to Tokyo Auto Salon just to check out the legendary models there. You just can't get vinyl outfits like that here.
Next up is Grip Video's own sponsored RX-7 with Rotary Power in California. While it is a 500 hp pro drift car you wouldn't know from the donuts in the parking lot. Wait until you have some good footage guys!
Last but not least we see some footage of Formula Drift in Houston, Texas. What I like about this feature is that it actually takes us out of California where most import car DVDs seem to be shot. Finally, you get to see what the rest of the country thinks about drifting, which apparently is very well received.
Okay, so that should be more than enough information to convince our highbrow readers that this DVD is worth your time and money. I am forever ever tainted because I have a new bar to compare future videos to so from now on everyone is going to get 3's on a 1-10 scale. Until then kids, happy viewing.
