Adding Braking Bite to the Lexus IS 300

Lexus IS300 Brake Rotor
Raise the front of the car using the proper jack points, setting the parking brake and blocking the rear tires. With that done, remove the front wheels.

Remove the stock caliper mounting bolts, but do not disconnect the brake line at this time. Once loosened, remove the caliper from the rotor and tie-wrap it to the suspension assembly. Do not let it hang from the car.

The dust shield or backing plate is then removed. On the IS 300, this involves snipping it off at the knuckle assembly, but other applications may be different.

Here is what the suspension looks like at this point in the process. The Stillen rotor should be test-fitted to check clearances.

The L-shaped caliper adapter bracket is secured to the assembly via the supplied 12x45mm caliper mounting bolts, nyclon nuts and nyclon washers. Be sure the nuts and washer are mounted on the inboard side of the bracket away from the rotor. Tighten all hardware to 75-80 ft-lbs.

Install the adapter ring, which helps center the rotor on the spindle.

Install the Stillen rotor with the hat portion facing out.

Position the Stillen/AP Racing caliper over the rotor on the L-shaped adapter bracket. Be sure the banjo bolt hole is to the inside and the bleeder valve is on top. Use the socket head cap screws and flat washers to secure the caliper. Tighten to 35 ft-lbs using Blue Locktite.

Join the banjo end of the stainless-steel brake line to the caliper with the supplied copper crush washers then swap out the stock line.

Next, remove the end fitting of the stock line and attach the stainless Stillen line. Fluid may leak at this stage; do not let the master cylinder drain all the way.
