The "core of power" in APEXi's Civic turbo kit are an IHI AX53B60-P18 ball-bearing turbo and cast iron manifold. Cast iron is more capable of withstanding the heat generated by a turbo and can better position the turbo when compared with tubular manifolds, which can warp and crack in a turbocharged environment.

The IHI turbo uses its ball bearing center section to speed spool-up, which allows APEXi to be more aggressive on housing and wheel sizes, resulting a turbo that is responsive and provide good top-end flow.
