Max-4 engine with cams and sprockets secured to the Batten B-4 head. Each camshaft provides a direct drive for a high-pressure in-line mechanical fuel pump, one a Waterman Red "Little Bertha" 40 gal/min nitro pump, the other an Enderle eight gal/min pump for 80-percent ethanol, 20-percent VP-116 race gasoline. Gasoline improves the startability of Ethanol. The concept is to avoid fires and mechanical damage by keeping harsh nitromethane out of the oil as long as possible.
