Timing has to be pretty far off to make for a no-start condition. But if it's off by only a few degrees, then drivability, gas mileage, emissions and performance can suffer. Be sure to use a good quality timing light that hasn't been dropped. Timing lights like this Actron one have advance and retard controls, which makes it much easier and more accurate to set timing anywhere other than stock.
