Toyota Racing Development's Solara
The TRD Solara supercharger kit features a unique one-piece intake manifold with an Eaton-based compressor built into the manifold. A bypass valve regulates the Eaton blower to a very conservative 4psi of positive manifold pressure. We were utterly surprised to hear that the factory ECU handles fuel enrichment. Unlike the 4Runner kit, which includes a boost dependent regulator, the Solara engine management system is capable of sensing the extra air being fed to the V6 engine. The factory ECU compensates for the extra air and adds the necessary fuel requirements to maintain a proper air/fuel ratio. All necessary hardware, including all pulleys and belts, are included in the kit for easy bolt-on installation. The supercharger even comes preassembled for a quicker installation. Any qualified mechanic can install the kit within one day but we do recommend that if your vehicle is still under warranty to have it installed by the Toyota dealer.
We hope to see more supercharger kits to be developed for vehicles sharing the V6 engine of the Solara (i.e. IS300, Camry, Sienna and Avalon). The next time you see a Solara on the streets and it is sporting a "TRD-powered" sticker, think twice before you slam the pedal. This could be a race you might not win.
